When the Hegemony forces overran and razed the original monastery on Tsiun-ΞΎ back in the mid `60s, not everything was lost. One of the senior monks was undergoing treatment for a rare condition on another planet, and many of the acolytes was on a pilgrimage to the top of Mount Koji on the other end of the large island. Four years after the strike these were the nucleus around which a new monastery were built and the ancient knowledge began to be teached yet again. The shogunate civil war saw the monastery ending up at the Sengakuji side of the border, and when the first Guardians were brought back they started research on how to make such powerful Mechs.

The critical resources needed for the actual building wasn't available at the time, but the Prince of Flowers had plans in motion to get them. Where the resources came from, and who gathered them is a state secret, but the needed material was delivered and the actual construction of the Kami,( land spirit,) could begin.

This is the first ultraheavy Crab Mech. The decision was made after noticing the success of the Humbaba as it gives the Mech both a lower profile and allows its weight to be divided in a way that puts less strain on each leg. The fact that this gives a somewhat more stable firing platform certainly helps steadying the weapons. The six leg configuration also lets it move and turn in ways that would be extremely problematical for a humanoid Mech. A further refinement is the construction of the lowest leg joints. Normally they are folded into spike like points to allow a firm adherence to the ground, but they can be folded out like flower petals to spread the weight better on softer ground. The front pair is even more flexible, and while they are hardly hands, they can be used to pick up and manipulate items. As a last resort, these powerful pinchers are also capable of cutting through an opponents armor.

At the heart of the Mech is the Shoki (Demon) advanced targeting computer. In an interesting departure from normal procedures it have eight independent processors taking all incoming data into consideration before they work together in choosing targets. The miniscule delay while the processors compare chosen targets is considered well worth it as it both gives the optimum firing solution, allows for multi-targeting and have data on the follow up target ready at hand. Each of the processors will eventually have room for an supporting module to further refine how the firepower should be best employed.

The Donryo (Storm Dragon) power plant is another ingenious idea perfectly suited to the Mech. Its immense power production generates quite a bit of heat. Some of it is used to produce additional energy via heat exchangers that is stored in overload capacitors, much of the rest is available to increase the power of its fire weapons by more than four fifths of standard settings. Eventually the plant will have room for eight additional modules.

Defensively the Kami is quite nimble, and its roomy carapace will eventually have room for seven chassis modules. The Hatamoto shielding system is created to handle unpleasant surprises from many quarters, and will when fully operational have room for five shield modules.
