Dilophos

Ferrite: 19500
Bioptics: 12500
Niodes: 100

Unlike his little brother Luison, the Dilophos is not built for stealth. Manufactured by Star Factories, this 75 ton punisher is an adversary to be wary of. Its crowning achievement is the strength of its Ion Drive, which was designed through rigorous testing to endure persistent overclocking. With overclocking, the Ion Drive can actually cause instabilities in the weapon cycling, which may result in weapon fire branching out.

Forking, as the branching of laser fire is called, is achieved through niode resonance displacement technology. The niodes are placed within the skeleton of the mech at unique points to achieve ideal resonance. When the Ion Drive is flushed, any weaponry that fires may produce a warp effect. Warping the firing point causes a fold in space around the weapon, and so any fire coming out of it is essentially mimicked with a different vector. As the niodes accumulate more warp energy, the chances of creating this space-time fold actually increases. The Dilophos uses plasma and laser weaponry to complement this style of combat--and with deadly results.

One consequence of such a habitual patterns of overcharging and flushing its drive core is that the circuitry endures much more trauma than normal. Combined with an alloy armor, the Dilophos should avoid concussive or thermal impacts, to best increase its chances of strategic implementation on the battlefield. Many people consider this weakness to be tolerable though, since it has no reliance on ammunition. Furthermore, many pilots incorporate subroutines into the mech computer to redirect any available power to shielding, which gives it considerable resistance against any incoming laser fire. Overall, the Dilophos is a surprisingly easy mech to maintain.

Like his little brother Luison, the Dilophos is prized within all strata of the Shogunate. Although the origin of its design belongs to Sabrena Sloan, Shogunate officials bear the brightly-colored design as a symbol of pride, and to repaint one is often considered to be taboo--a metaphorical caging of this mech's raw power. For this reason the Dilophos is often seen under the Yakuza's employ, as both a symbol of strength and shared identity with the Yakuza's tattooed leaders. Don't assume this is always the case though--the Dilophos has a long history and is loved by many.

Legendary Pilots

  • Richard Millich

    Richard Millich

Original founder of the RND Chessmen family of units, Richard "Zax" Millich has built a unique legacy as equal parts scientist, commander, and dueling legend. Owner of one of the very first Dilophi off the assembly line, he has maximized this machine for every form of battle possible. This is his personal motto: "Always improve."

  • Chris Harding

    Chris Harding

A notable test pilot, but with several million in debt to the Yakuza and the Shogunate government, Harding was brought under forcible employ to do quality assurance testing for the new generation of Shogunate mecha. He overclocked his Ion Drive too far, and destroyed his mecha in the process—but not before vaporizing the encroaching enemy mecha.
