The red ant is the oldest remaining in use mecha the galaxy, having seen roughly continuous use for 300 galactic years. In that time scientists and engineers had “built up,” creating monstrously heavy mecha capable of wielding ever larger weapons, little was done to improve upon the designs of smaller mecha. However, not content to sit on their laurels any longer, engineers at Star Factories took a deep look at the basic processes of the smallest and lightest of mecha.

Light mecha have numerous advantages compared to their larger brethren, they are faster and can be produced at a far greater rate. While only strong mercenary bands and galactic governments can afford the latest 115 ton mechas, smaller groups can afford multiple light mecha to make themselves a force on the battlefield. As galactic catastrophes ranging from the infamous Doctor Drake to the wicked Drocha have shown, the difference between having a mecha squadron, or not, can be the key difference the fate of entire planets hinges upon.

To that end the Black termite was produced, cementing Star Factories domination over light mecha production. Taking the multiple lifetime long lessons of the red ant, the termite packs an unbelievably powerful punch. New power structures and weaponry load outs allow the black termite to more fully use missile weaponry with an eye towards taking down multiple opponents in a single volley of weapon fire. Further improvements allow the termite a basic form of self repair, allowing it to outlast any opponents it cannot directly overpower. This power and longevity, combined with the natural speed and agility of a light mecha makes the Termite a potent combination. A squad is capable of downing foes far more individually powerful with a fraction of the investment needed. Additionally, for larger galactic powers they provide scouting units that are not helpless under fire. All told the attributes of the Termite will see it applied in numerous combat situations.
