Historically, the most common mecha have always been bipedal, due to the relatively forgiving learning curve compared to more exotic forms. However, as pilot training regimens have improved, and pilots begin training at younger ages, they have begun to develop a greater appreciation for multipedal forms. Manufacturers, initially hesitant to make large capital expenditures on the back of a fad, have begun to respond, and their designs are maturing. A fine example of this recent development, the Krampus is intended for the skilled, discerning pilot.

Chief among the model's advantages is stability - the Krampus can easily maneuver in, and fire safely from, terrain that humanoid mecha simply cannot handle. In addition, the Krampus can support much heavier equipment and armaments than humanoid mecha of similar tonnage. In many respects, the model is a hybrid of recent light and heavy mecha, retaining many of the advantages of each, with few of the drawbacks.

In addition to the steepened learning curve for new pilots, the Krampus is also relatively untested, especially in large-scale combat. The Illyrian Hegemony is conducting field exercises with an all-Krampus battalion, reportedly with excellent results. For now, though, the history of this promising mech remains unwritten, increasing its allure throughout the galaxy among aspiring young pilots hoping to make their mark.

  • ScarFirewolf

    ScarFirewolf

Scar has a soft spot for the Krampus because he appreciates untapped potential. He knows that skilled pilots can catch opponents off-guard by using the less-common combination of Freeze and projectile cannons. If its target is not immediately paralyzed, a Krampus can quickly dart away when the enemy returns fire. Ultimately, a Krampus will win most fights against mecha of its own weight class.
