As war waged on into the 3200s, the Illyrian Hegemony slowly chipped away at the power of the Meji Shogunate. This was aided by the mighty plasma weapons of the Cindron, which lay waste to the Meiji forces across the galaxy.
At the same time, Meiji religious castes began creating ceremonial mecha to honor prominent veteran families. One such ceremonial Mech was under construction at the mecha monastery on Tsiun-ξ.

Inspired, and terrified, by second-hand accounts of the rare Illyrian Cindron, the ancient monks there imagined a far more capable beast than even the real terror represented. Putting all their craftsmanship into this ascended simulacrum, they erected a much larger, much more powerful, religious instrument.
They would never field their creation to their warrior benefactors, however. Just at the end of construction, Tsiun-ξ was overrun by a surprise attack from the Hegemony, and the artifact fell into the hands of the very forces who had inspired it. The Hegemony now had... a new perspective on their fearsome Mech.
Hegmony scientists on Novum Dolurum learned much, very much. Once they had reverse-engineered the techniques of the obliterated monastery's work, they sent them into mass production, and the Inferno went from nightmare to reality. The original was melted for scrap.
A larger and heavier mech than the Cindron, the Inferno also holds a larger weapon array and a superior shielding system. Less dependent on fire alone, the built in weapons boosters allow general purpose double, triple, or even massive 6X damage on a perfect shot. This reincarnation is not for the novice commander. Its exotic instrumentation requires a certain tranquility of mind not found in many commanders: you will need skill in high-tonnage mecha to pilot it.
After his Incorporation in his youth in the academy of Vectrix Sigma, he stood out early as a resolute and skillful pilot, joining the fearful mercenary clans.
During the wars against Droch’ah and the League of Ages, he consolidated himself as an expert and lethal warrior at the head of his high-tech customized Inferno “Helleâ€, which after a few discreet modifications, became a mechanized avatar of destruction, accumulating a gruesome amount of enemy casualties.
The reappearance of a new threat to the galaxy, with the insidious invasions of Unification first, and of Xeon later, decided him to take an active part in the fight, retaking the controls of Helle, to fight now with the Dragon banner, with which he spreads chaos and destruction among his foes
known amongst his clanmates as "Spectre", This former Armored Core pilot now resides in the 64th Armored Engineers RND. The mere sight of his Infernos incinerating his foes on the battlefield has sent many-a mech pilots running back to base, crying for their mommies.
-Abbott made a name for himself in the 3270s with a squadron of eight Infernos, churning and burning his way to four consecutive King of the Mountain events. This caught the attention of the AFF, and subsequently made him their chief tactical officer and the leader of his own AFF Clan.
Don Davis--A Master of the Infernos, Dons strategy early in his piloting career was to use seven overcranked Infernos behind a front line of fast attacking Smilodons. This often suckered the enemy into a false sense of security where they often met hell itself, nullifying any auto repair capabilities. When asked why he did it that way Don replied , "For entertainment."
A silent man with a simmering temper, Jim Buck was practically born to pilot fire-based Mecha, especially the infamous Inferno. As a young commander, Buck discovered an abandoned cache of high-performance engines, hidden away in a cave. Their added power and speed was the key he needed to break into the KotM winners' circle, and he's been setting arenas alight ever since.
McEwen Gill won her first KotM gold medal during a "Fire and Ice" event in 3273. Since then, she has developed an increasing preference for fire weapons, and for the Mechs designed to wield them. As a result, Infernos were the staple of her squadron for many years, but in the post-Drochah age they have all been replaced with the more powerful Ignis.
The preferred weapon for House of Romulus pilots for its broad burn distribution.
The last sight many will see is the dragon rearing up, then a blinding flash of flame...
This weapon emits such intense heat that it liquifies enemies and leaves only a smoldering pile of rubble.
