An unknown cadet once quipped, “Speed is life.†He was more right than he knew. To eke out every bit of speed possible the weapon systems are tuned to work hand in hand with the quick cycling laser weapons favored by many pilots for that very reason. As the Fext is upgraded laser damage output increases significantly. High level pilots can expect greater than a 55% increase in Laser power.
The cockpit, AI, and electronics package are also optimized for quick action. Built in target correction from the new Charon-17 AI add to hit probability. The gunnery package also comes with a moderate amount of built in mutli-target resolution to enable the pilot to Fork a shot and hit two opponents simultaneously. These abilities can be augmented using custom programming upgrades. A total of six custom upgrade ports are available on a fully upgraded model making it a force to be reckoned with.
The Chassis is even stronger than one would imagine even for a mech this size. Using the same alloy recovered from Forerunner mechs the frame can easily withstand the massive stresses of high speed combat even with customization modules added. The incredible armor load of the Fext is a subject of some speculation among its design team. Already the heaviest amount of armor plating in existence on a bipedal mech, and second in total armor only to the Apatotron, some engineers believe it could be increased with no ill effects on the chassis. Five upgrade slots are available for the pilot to tailor his mech to mission or personal preference.
To power this massive mech Gen. Nova used contracted Sprague and Altimont for a modification to their Colony-Core power plant. Powerful enough to support a terraforming colony on its own the Colony-Core is more than sufficient for the Fext's needs. As with all mechs of its size, and its namesake, the Fext starts out a bit slow due to the limits of power generation technology. Upgrades quickly overcome this deficit and fully upgraded it actually boasts a speed in positive numbers in comparison to combat optimal, something that no other 100 ton mech can achieve. Custom upgrade boosters and modifications increase the total speed rating by a large margin as well. In keeping with making this behemoth move as fast as possible no less than eight customization ports are built into the design.
Knowing surplus power would be generated General Nova designed power shunts to redirect it into the weapons suite to create mech killing 2X and 3X overloaded blasts. A second radical idea was incorporated into the power system of the Fext. In hopes of capitalizing on the already deadly overloads a second AI was installed for the sole purpose of power management and optimization. Originally developed for use in the Inferno Mecha the Efreeti3S was passed over for a better design. Slaved directly into the power system of the Fext the Efreeti is ideal although not working exactly as planned. A happy accident of engineering the AI created an entirely new rating of overload power. In analyzing the power output of the Colony-Core during live fire testing the AI noted while there was quite often surplus power after the generation of a 2X overload. The surplus over the standard 2X was channeled into the weapon to create a 1.5X overload. The AI's ability to gauge power use and redirect it at the speed of thought allows it to surge a 2X followed by a 3X and a 1.5X in nanoseconds creating a truly devastating 9X overload without melting the weapon itself into a puddle of useless slag.
To better protect itself Five custom shield generators can be fitted on the frame. Designed to be in the thick of battle, protection from area attacks are standard on the Fext. Heavy Trample shields cover it while it closes in to firing range. Fully 70% of any Trample damage will be deflected by a fully upgraded model. Of note is a considerable attention given to Ice weapon shielding. With 70% protection from Ice attacks built in custom shielding can easily be focused elsewhere. Rumor has it that Ice Shielding was added by General Nova to directly counter the fearsome Boreas mech.
Known for his high resistance to sleep and exhaustion in the cockpit of his Fext, which generates admiration from his comrades in arms, Commander Joshua Bourne is an almost indispensable element in the landscape of the Dragons mercenary faction. He holds such a highly addictive taste for the Cantonese cuisine of the Shogunate that some engineers swear that he installed a dispenser of Kung Po Snavurm in one of his cockpit modules.
But Commander Bourne is more than just a capable Dragons staff officer. During the 3320 Squad Wars Tournament, he led the Dragons Beta Squad to defeat all enemy units. This led them to become champions of the fifth division, after a particularly bloody battle against the famous Death’s Collectors, a force he trampled with his specialized 1200 tons of pure niobium and ferrite strength, which he commanded from his unstoppable Fext, aptly named "Line of Fire."
When Star Factories released their homage to laser weapons with the Fext, Charles knew he had met his new favorite mecha. In short order he acquired eight of them, making his squadron that much more imposing. Nothing makes Charles happier than a day spent mowing down enemies after sucking down a few Hatorades (thanks Gorax Effect for the extra drinks!), and his Fexts can make short work of almost any opponent. Charles is nicknamed “Feeder of Ravens†for a reason—if his enemies are fortunate enough not to be instantly destroyed by the crit-kill from his Fexts' lasers, they still have to somehow survive the rest of his ground-pounding arsenal.
This talented pilot and scientist of the legendary Dragon mercenary faction, was able to develop the project of the infamous Doctor Drake from the incomplete documentation that could be seized from one of his clandestine laboratories, putting them into practice by creating with patience a large army of his own clones.
In the military field, he has proved to be a prudent master pilot with a high handicap of enemy casualties, caused at the controls of his Fext “War hammerâ€, whose technical capabilities have increased with the application of ingenious and surprising setups combined with tactics always well executed.
Tom and his War hammer have become a fearsome asset for the Dragons flag that has changed the fate of several battles, saving the day with his last hour interventions.
As of Today a new legend s being told around the Mecha Galaxy. Jim "Pops" Faoro has become renowned as a legendary pilot of the 100 ton Fext Class Mecha. In the hands of a pilot like Faoro the core attributes of the Fext, high speed, potent defenses, and an empowering of laser based weaponry, reach their fullest potential. And at that full potential the Fext is a machine built for speed and quick action; attributes that play to the particular strengths of Faoro. Faoro made his first indication of legendary status in the 7th ever King of the Mountain, back in 3266. Since then he has made surprise appearances at various contests, always bring something unique and surprising into the fray. More than most pilots, Faoro is a skilled engineer and technical problem solver. A chief engineer in his clan, Rossi Machine, Faoro is fond of saying "If I can't fix it; it ain't broke." Luckily for his clan, it is seldom that Faoro is ever at a lost for a technical answer. Ever improving, tweaking, and updating his mecha, Faoro has surprised ore than one opponent with his custom tailored mecha enhancements and upgrades. Known by his humble call sign of "Pops," Faoro has shepherded and assisted countless pilots in the rigors of mecha combat, often with tips, tricks, and suggestions to help the young pilots get the most out of their machines. More than most pilots Faoro is well aware how knowledge is very much power in a fight between mecha. Knowledge of your opponents mecha, and a true understanding of the capabilities and limitations of your own mecha, can be worth a dozen pilots in the right circumstances. Faoro makes sure those circumstances happen often, and in his favor. Ever putting his knowledge and skills to the test, the only certainty for Faoro is that his legend will continue grow.
