Rowe Incorporated in the Clarke Federation began the initial production run of the Daemon in 3320, almost a year after the Mercenary Clans lead a successful attack on the Unification Army and disabled their portal generating equipment.

As the Clarke manufacturer prepared to launch the Daemon, Dr. Drake Novum resurfaced with a devious new plan and began stealing gold medals from the Clans and new mecha from manufacturers throughout the galaxy.

The Clans found themselves dealing with an increasing number of clones made in Drake’s labs. This was no small task, since many of the clones were designed using the DNA from the Clansmen themselves.

Rowe Incorporated has demonstrated their intent to become a more prominent mecha producer with the release of the Daemon. Their newest mecha is designed to fulfill a long time request of pilots for more variety in the medium weight class of mecha. Rowe’s success with the Balrog mecha and their update package for the Namtar undoubtedly helped prepare them to release this new crystal based mecha in the 50 ton class.

The Daemon’s A.I. is known as the Magnaclaw A.I. and it was originally designed as a test platform for gravity racing skiffs on Yomi. Seeing even greater potential in the system, the designers continued to develop the Magnaclaw into a fully functional combat A.I. and then customized it for the Daemon.

The Magnaclaw is adept at generating increased damage output from Missile and Fire weapons. Both of these weapon systems on the Daemon are capable of delivering salvos that are 30% or more above factory specifications.

Secondary targeting algorithms in the Magnaclaw direct fire at opponents near the primary target, augmenting the Splash feature available with many Fire and Missile weapon systems. This A.I.’s self-adjusting display also adds a 5% probability of hitting an opponent over an unaided salvo. The Magnaclaw also carries twin ports for the addition of custom programming.

Rowe’s engineers selected the Dreadbloom powerplant for the Daemon. Fully upgraded, this mid-sized workhorse unit is capable of moving the Daemon at speeds of + 9 over combat optimal. This makes the Daemon faster than the Oggun and Warg, a fact that the Rowe engineers have been quick to point out.

Also included on the Dreadbloom is a bank of 3X overload capacitors to boost the damage output of any weapons mounted on the Daemon. The triple power overloads generated by the Dreadbloom are not a common feature on many medium size mecha, and so they provide another advantage for the Daemon over its contemporaries. When these combine with the 2X overload capacitors inherent in many weapon systems, the Daemon can unleash a devastating 6X salvo. The Magnaclaw is supplied with three ports for the addition of custom equipment.

The chassis of the Daemon is constructed from the same battle-tested alloy used to construct the Balrog mecha. A unique feature developed for the Daemon are the Neuroshift Actuators that are integrated with the A.I. Once the pilot has developed these systems to the point where they can communicate with each other, the Neuroshift Actuators enable the Daemon to Dodge incoming attacks without drawing’s the pilot’s attention from the battle. A pair of slots for mission essential equipment is also available to pilots.

Test pilots called the Daemon a defensive specialist and that claim is well supported. Shield pods mounted on the Daemon defend against all types of incoming attacks. Additional shielding is provided against area attacks such as Trample and Fork. Four slots for heavy shielding modules enable pilots to be prepared for various battle situations.

As a 50 ton mecha, the Daemon enjoys access to both Beta and Gamma class shields. This gives pilots a flexible and economical solution for shield needs until the pilot can replace them with the larger and more powerful Gamma models for unparalleled shielding.

The Daemon was first designed in 3316, but production of the mecha was put on hold due to the demands of the long conflict with Unification. Unification’s repeated attacks from 3316-3319 strained the defenses and resources of all of the Major and Minor Powers throughout the galaxy. After the Mercenary Clans traveled through the portals and damaged Unification’s portal generators in 3320, Rowe was able to devote more resources to bringing the Daemon to production.

The Clarke Federation’s Rowe Incorporated is on their way to becoming a premier mecha manufacturer for crystal based mecha. The release of the 100 ton Balrog mecha has brought them to the attention of even the veteran mercenary clans. The update package they designed and distributed for the Namtar has also been well received. Not all of the Major Powers manufacturers have been able to produce update packages for older designs, although pilots are eager to see such improvements.

Rowe designed mecha are now a mainstay in many of the Mercenary Clan’s formations. The Daemon quickly became a welcome addition to the forces of the Mercenary Clans as they scoured the fringes of inhabited space, searching for the whereabouts and cloning facilities of the infamous Dr. Drake Novum.

Legendary Pilots

  • Roman Himmelhan

    Roman Himmelhan

Roman Himmelhan is a veteran pilot baked in the oven of hundreds of battles under the old banner of AFF Death’s Squads. There are rumors of him making mysterious dark pacts as he has never been injured in battle despite being known to fight with a berserk demeanor that has given him the name of “Evil Chairman”.

In 3220, after a long and prestigious career as Affiliation’s officer, his glory time came when he sacrificed his personal mech while defending the AFF base on Tombstone (the AFF home planet) before the Unification waves and after the “Half-Baked” incident in which a great gateway unexpectedly opened in the center of their base.

In recognition of this valorous action, the AFF assigned him a full squadron of the newly released Daemon class mech for testing goals. Roman valued the versatility of the Daemon so much that he reworked it and mastered it to win the gold in the fourth division of the Daemonaide of March 3321.
